Outside DoD/govcon space, Sec+ is increasingly seen as a checkbox cert. Hands-on alternatives like ISC2 CC, TCM PJPT, or HTB CDSA are cheaper and more practical. CompTIA's 3-year renewal grind also unpopular.

Renewal options are flexible — earn 50 CEUs in 3 years (other certs, courses, blog posts) or retake. Recurring tip: take Network+ first if your networking is weak; Sec+ assumes solid networking baseline.
