Renewal: 60 CEUs over 3 years, similar to other CompTIA certs. Higher CompTIA certs auto-renew lower ones. Good resume keyword for ATS filtering, but be prepared to back it up with hands-on demonstration in interviews.

For DoD govcon (8570/8140 IAT III + CSSP roles), PenTest+ checks the compliance box and is much cheaper than equivalent SANS/GIAC alternatives. Outside DoD, most self-funders skip in favor of eJPT or HTB CPTS at lower cost with stronger technical signal.

$404 fee. Performance-based questions (PBQs) cover basic recon, exploitation, post-exploitation. CompTIA TestOut + Jason Dion Udemy course standard prep. PT0-002 (current) added more cloud and IoT pentest content.

PenTest+ sits awkwardly between CEH (knowledge MCQ) and OSCP (hands-on hacking). DoD 8570/8140 approved which gives some govcon value. Outside DoD, the technical community generally prefers OSCP, eJPT, or HTB CPTS for actual pentesting skill.
